Unique in its form, this class is a great option for dance and fitness enthusiasts. Bhangra is an Indian folk dance from Punjab which is particularly recognized for its colors, its joie de vivre and its dynamism. Traditionally masculine, she is characterized by her dynamism, her great movements and her joie de vivre.

The Cardio bhangra course does not require any prerequisite. Much like zumba, you will follow simple routines inspired directly from the traditional form of dance. Several degrees of intensity are offered to you during the session, so you are able to modulate your energy expenditure.

The course invites you to use the highly energetic vocabulary of this dance to improve your physical endurance and "take a good sweat" to the rhythmic sound of dhol and tumbi!

Note:

  • Since the bhangra was originally a male dance, men are especially encouraged to come and try it!

  • Teacher's Experience
  • Jill started bollywood a few years ago, captivated by the aesthetics, energy and colors of Indian cinema. She has followed several trainings in various styles in order to better understand the phenomenon and the vocabulary specific to bollywood: bharata natyam, gypsy dances of Rajasthan, bhangra, garba and dandiya, kathak, odissi and urban bollywood. She has studied notably with Ginette Dion-Ahmed, Amrita Choudhury, Lopa Serkar, Namrata Khandekar-Boileau, Rajesh, and is very inspired by the creations of Marie-Chantal Anctil. Her interest is also academic and she regularly draws on the work of renowned researchers in the field such as Sangita Shresthova. As an artist, she wants to make known the many facets of bollywood and make Indian dances more popular in Quebec; which motivates her to start teaching at Studio Danse Mirage in 2013 and to collaborate thereafter with other artists or organizations in the field to perform and teach across the province. Jill is best known for her dynamism and precision. In teaching, it aims to understand movements and the cultural notions that are often associated with them. In addition, it seeks to meet expectations as much as to innovate with originality and authenticity towards a completely "filmi" style. In addition to Indian dances, Jill has been practicing oriental and tribal dance (ATS) since 2006, has completed several folklore training courses and is part of Tribu Nataraja.
