When providing aesthetics treatments practitioners frequently come in contact with contagious viruses or bacteria that are carried by the human blood.

The Bloodborne Pathogen training course is addressed to all employees who are exposed to the microscopic hazards present in the human blood, as well as to other potentially infectious materials, such as needles.

Bloodborne Pathogens Training is for any person who may be reasonably anticipated to face contact with blood and other potentially infectious materials as the result of performing their job duties. This course is aimed specifically at those in the healthcare/aesthetics industry.

Classroom (Didactic) Education

Understanding bloodborne pathogens that cause hepatitis and AIDS is an essential component of infection control for professionals in the body art industry due to the risk of significant blood exposure.

This course covers the different types of hepatitis including the structure of each virus, how it enters the body, where it replicates, forms of the disease, transmission, serological markers used for diagnosis, risks and preventative measures.

The material on HIV includes properties of the virus, how it replicates in host cells, effect on the host, diagnostic tests, stages of the disease, transmission, and risks. Protocol to be followed after a significant blood exposure is covered.

Routine practices to protect against blood borne pathogens are discussed as well as additional precautions to protect against diseases spread by other routes.

Course Objectives

By the end of your  training you will be able to:

  • Identify bloodborne pathogens and risk of infection.
  • Differentiate between antibodies vs. antigens
  • Understand virus structure and classification
  • Identify required protocol following exposure to blood
  • Identify appropriate methods of infection control and methods of prevention.
  • Understand appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
