The Counterbalance forklift truck is the most widely used forklift truck in operation in the UK and around the world. We use the latest training techniques, combining theory and practical training exercises in accordance with HSE and RTITB Guidelines and we continually achieve high success rates.

All our instructors have many years of practical workplace experience with forklifts, therefore our training involves introducing you to the practicalities of operating forklifts in the workplace. Successful candidates will be certificated and will receive a certificate of training. This is needed for insurance and UK law purposes.

 

Course Agenda:

  • Hazard awareness

  • The operators’ safety code

  • Safety video

  • Associated knowledge theory training and test

  • Introduction to the Counterbalance forklift truck to be used

  • Daily pre-use inspection and maintenance

  • Care of batteries or LPG or Diesel trucks

  • Introduction to and safe use of controls and instruments

  • Weight assessment of loads and truck stability factors

  • Starting, moving and stopping the truck

  • Manoeuvring in open and confined area’s

  • Safe operation of hydraulic controls

  • Handling unladen and laden pallets

  • Stacking and de-stacking – at various heights (low, eye and high levels)

  • Safe loading and Unloading Procedures

  • Practical test of basic operating skills

 

How old do I need to be to operate a Counterbalance forklift?

  • The HSE Approved Code of Practice and Guidance states that Children under minimum school leaving age (16 years of age) should never operate lift trucks.

 

When is refresher training required?

  • At least once every 3-5 years. Or sooner if an accident has occurred, or non-use for a long period of time.

 

What is the legal training requirements for operating lift trucks?

  • The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) place certain requirements on employers.

  • You MUST make sure that all people who use, supervise or manage the use of work equipment have received ‘adequate training’.
