Several German companies are situated in international locations. A good knowledge of German definitely boosts one’s chances of a career with a German company in one’s own country. When it comes to studying, engineering, medicine, or philosophy – Germany is one of the most sought-after countries. A German university degree is highly valued by employers all over the world.

German is the second most important language in science. Knowing the basics of the German language is an advantage in many research fields. It is interesting to note that Germany is the world's second most popular country after America for people seeking employment. 100 million people in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany speak German. People in the small country of Liechtenstein also speak German. It is the third most widely used content language for websites. This makes German the most widely spoken mother language in Europe and one of the ten most widely spoken languages in the world.

When it comes to identifying similarities, learning German is not really a hard task. Many German words are closely related to English words or have migrated into other languages: Kindergarten = kindergarden, Finger = finger, Haus = house, Rucksack = rucksack, blau = blue, windig = windy. German and Sanskrit also share similarities. Both German and Sanskrit are phonetic languages. This means that the manner in which one pronounces the language and write the language are the same. Other than this, grammar and sentence structure are also very similar to each other. With German as a basis, one would find it easier to learn other Germanic languages. For example, Dutch and even Afrikaans can be derived from German.
