Our Story
Our business began back in 2012 as a one-day event called Brooklyn Craft Camp, created by our founder Brett Bara. Held in the basement of a charming old church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, the event was a day-long extravaganza of craft workshops, great music, delicious food, drinks, and good times.
It was such a hit that Brett saw a market for fun, approachable crafts activities for adults, and she decided to expand the business by opening a permanent craft studio in an old pencil factory loft space, offering a variety of DIY workshops year-round -- and Brooklyn Craft Company was born!
We spent three craft-tastic years as a workshop space, teaching thousands of students to sew, weave, dye, make art, knit, and so much more. We threw some amazing craft parties, too, like our Cat Lady Craft Night event, Craft Camps, and much more.
After three years as a workshop space, we saw that our customers were hungry to buy the supplies they needed to continue all the skills they were learning in our classes. Our lease was up for renewal, so instead of renewing we decided to take a leap and open a store! Brooklyn Craft Company moved just a few blocks down the street to our current home, our first-ever storefront! We now offer fabric, yarn, craft supplies and tons more creative goodies in our beautiful, inspiring shop -- as well as the DIY workshops our students know and love.
Come visit us anytime. We'd love to get crafty with you!
