DurationOnce made, a booking cannot be transferred to an alternative date. If for any reason you are unable to attend please feel free to send a substitute. If you book a workshop for several days duration please make sure you can attend all days. Please check the dates carefully prior to booking.
All workshops/courses must be paid for in full prior to the workshop start date. Payment can be made by PayPal or credit/debit card. Sewing can be overwhelming with all of the features and moving parts, but it does not have to be.

Several of the classes build on each other and can help you get more familiar with techniques and gain skills of all kinds.

The Sew In Group CIC, previously known as Sew in Kent was established in 2018 by designer and dressmaker Naomi Benjamin and became a not-for-profit social enterprise in May 2023.
Our aim is to promote the practice of sewing and dressmaking for creativity, sustainability and mental wellbeing in a safe space where our community can get together, recharge and explore their creativity.
We share a passion for community engagement and accessibility for all and believe that exposure to creativity at all levels can inspire and empower everyone within our community. For this reason we create fun and inclusive spaces where individuals can engage in our programmes.
Our sewing programmes take place in the Sew in Kent studio, Medway as well as within school and community settings in and around Kent and the South East. As a CIC all our profits are put back into projects at The Sew In Group and the wider community .
Afraid of sewing machines, or dangerous at the wheel? Come and learn to sew with us! This three week course covers all the basics of sewing, giving you a solid foundation from which you can grow – whatever direction you’d like to take your sewing career.
The class will work on a project which is set by the tutor. It covers pattern alteration, fabric choice, and fitting, pinning and cutting out. You’ll be shown how to use sewing machines and how to make and finish garments.
The Advanced Course runs in 6 week blocks. Your sewing capabilities and understanding of how fabrics work with specific assignments will progress and develop. Your proficiency in mastering a variety of techniques will improve, and we’ll work on a range of projects to suit your creative desires.
We can chat through how classes work and what projects you will sew. Once you are ready to start, we’ll check availability and book you in to your first machine sewing class! Classes run Wednesdays to Fridays with limited space on Saturdays.
This class is for absolute beginners to dressmaking and sewing. You will discover how to use the sewing machine, make seams and understand pattern instructions. If you have a machine of your own please feel free to bring it with you to learn on.
