Most of the presently available tableware has been in some way produced with the help of a mould. Moulds are used in a process called slip-casting, where liquid clay is poured into a hollow mould, which in most cases consists of multiple parts.
The second kind of moulds are called press-moulds. Here the clay is either draped over a hump mould, formed in a slump mould or pressed into a relief mould. In our classes, we will teach you how to make both.
We will show how to examine an object to find the correct way to make a mould for slip-casting, guide you through the process of making moulds from plaster of Paris and of course teach you how to make the most out of your precious mould.
