This license will allow the holder to fly a single-engine aircraft or ultra-light aircraft as captain, during the day in VFR conditions in Canada with passengers.As with a commercial pilot license, you can add annotations to this license such as, VFR OTT, night, seaplane, multi-engine and instrument flights.

Certain Prerequisites Are Necessary:

  • Minimum age 17;
  • Class 3 medical certificate;
  • Radiotelephone operator certificate;
  • PSTAR written exam, this exam is taken directly at your Orizon Aviation training unit, a passing score of 90% is required. This exam is necessary to obtain the student pilot permit which will allow the instructor to authorize the student to fly solo at the appropriate time.

 60 Hours Of Theoretical Training

This series of training will prepare the student for the written exam, Orizon Aviation includes in its offer 60 hours of training, instead of the 40 hours required by Transport Canada, in order to better prepare its students and covers the following subjects:

  • Canadian Aviation Regulations;
  • Aerodynamics and flight mechanics;
  • Meteorology;
  • Cells, motors, circuits and systems;
  • Flight instruments;
  • Radio and electronics theory;
  • Navigation;
  • Air operations;
  • Licensing conditions;
  • Human factors including pilot decision making;

PPAER written exam at Transport Canada on the following subjects:

  • Air law; regulations, rules and orders, air traffic services, practices and procedures, and licensing requirements applicable to the license;
  • Navigation – navigation, radio aids and electronic theory;
  • Meteorology;
  • Aeronautics – general knowledge – airframes, engines, circuits and systems, flight mechanics, flight instruments and flight operations.

 The passing grade is 60% for each of the 4 compulsory subjects as well as the general written exam.To be eligible for the exam, 40 hours of theoretical training must be completed as well as 10 hours of flight time.A letter of recommendation from your instructor is required.

 Flight Training, A Minimum Of 45 Hours

The applicant must have completed a course of at least 45 hours of private pilot flight training – aeroplane under the direction and supervision of the holder of a flight instructor rating – aeroplane of which no more than 5 hours of the 45 hours of training may be carried out on an aeroplane simulator or an approved flight training device.

Minimum of 17 hours in dual command with an instructor including:

  • Minimum of 3 hours of flight travel;
  • Minimum of 5 hours of instrument training of which 3 hours can be done on an approved simulator.

Minimum of 12 hours solo including:

  • Minimum of 5 hours solo flight travel;
  • Must have completed a 150nm cross-country flight that includes at least 2 stops in addition to the point of departure and arrival.

Between 7 and 12 hours of preparatory ground training will be provided in preparation for the flight exercises to be carried out.

 Flight Test:

  • With an assessor qualified by Transport Canada.
  • You must have at least 35 hours of flight time to be eligible for the flight test.
  • A letter of recommendation from your instructor is required.
  • The PPAER written test is not a prerequisite for the flight test, so you can choose to take your flight test before the written exam.
