Our sewing program runs after school during each school term. Programs are structured to enable students to learn a new skill every week during the different stages of their projects. Sew & Co covers everything from hand and machine sewing, embroidery, working with patterns, creating designs and mood boards, choosing fabrics and so much more!
Classes include mixed ages however with only 14 students per class projects are individually focused for beginner, intermediate or advanced levels of sewing. Projects are carefully considered for students so they can be proud of their completed projects at the end of each term. At Sew & Co students are encouraged to be conscious about clothing production and gain from the incredible value and reward of making their own creations.
These days screen time is normal, but kids still need a break. Allowing them a space to relax, be social and create gives them the balance of the online and offline world. Sew & Co and Chip & Co focus on mindfulness, creativity and fun!
Sew & Co and Chip & Co are educational programs bringing back a lost art for kids. Research shows creating or tending things by hand makes us happy. Our programs inspire happiness in kids through independence and creative freedom.
Both of our sewing and woodworking programs align with the Australian Curriculum and teach maths and literacy skills. The bonus of creating with us is that kids enjoy learning through a unique and exciting activity tailored just for them.
Cross stitch is a great first step into learning embroidery, as it involves only a couple of simple hand stitches and their variations. It can be used to decorate garments, linen, and to create pictures.
This introductory beginners sewing class will teach you all the basics to get you started on the sewing machine! You will learn the parts and features of a sewing machine, how to set up the machine, the different stitches, settings and seams and how to solve common sewing problems.
These classes, instructed by Helena Kinnunen, are an introduction to upholstery sewing during which time students will make or recover their own cushions. It is suitable for beginner to intermediate skill level.
Drop off the kids and we will teach them basic sewing techniques from sewing straight lines to working with different fabrics. You will need to bring a sewing machine and basic sewing kit.
