What is Stress?
The fight, flight or freeze response is embedded into human nature and we, as human beings, experience physical changes in our bodies, which fade after the threat or the perceived threat has passed.
Stress is not a mental health issue, however, the ongoing and enduring impact of it, can lead to conditions such as anxiety and depression. Stress occurs when your body stays in a state of high alert, due to situations or events that you are currently experiencing in your life.
What do the terms Emotional Health and Wellbeing mean?
Definitions include “a state of emotional and mental good health and wellbeing” and “the ability to remain emotionally and mentally well in and after stressful and adverse situations. Stress and adversity can come in the shape of family or relationship problems, health problems, or workplace and financial worries”.

The aim of this training is to give Managers awareness of stress in the workplace so they know how to recognise and prevent it. There is a legal requirement placed on employers to ensure that stress in the workplace is properly managed and that a risk assessment is undertaken.
Our stress management work is designed to help employees and managers deal better with the pressures of the modern workplace.
This module has a particular focus on supporting staff with mental health and/ or stress issues including use of the Stress Risk Assessment tool.
Our Level 1 Award in Stress Awareness is delivered at our newly refurbished Stapleford Library and Learning Centre, Nottinghamshire, and is offered FREE or part-funded (see fee information below). The qualification aims to improve learners' understanding of stress.
