Course Description:
This interactive course — for a new supervisor or for someone about to become one — will explore the mindset that is required to supervise a team, and how a supervisor's responsibilities differ from those of a front-line worker.
Traits of successful supervisors are examined, along with skills such as holding team members accountable, managing accordingly, workload organization, problem-solving and decision making, giving useful feedback and learning how to communicate clearly.
We will practice these skills, and you'll leave with the confidence needed to step into your role effectively.
Technology is who we are — it’s what we do. Officially known as the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), we’re a community of thinkers, creators and champions leading change and reimagining the workforce of tomorrow.
In 1916, our doors opened in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with 11 students and a mandate to train veterans returning from the First World War. Over the years, we’ve matched community needs — as a hospital during the Spanish Flu pandemic and as a Royal Canadian Air Force Wireless Training School during the Second World War.
Fast forward to today and SAIT’s action-based learning, solution-focused research and industry partnerships are helping to shape the next generation of inventors, entrepreneurs and pioneers.
This course is soft skill based and goes beyond legal roles & responsibilities of supervisors & engages participants in identifying real-life challenges and solutions.
Front Line Leadership is a flexible, 10-module program that provides supervisors with a toolkit of practical communication and employee development tools that reduce conflict, improve employee performance, and enhance team effectiveness.
This workshop presents the crucial skills for managing employment relationships from beginning to end, with particular focus on hiring and performance management. Participants will also consider how their communication and personal approach to management affects the people they lead.
The successful supervisor needs a wide range of specialized skills: you must manage time well, communicate effectively, handle customer relations, measure work appropriately and ensure compliance with complex government legislation.
This course provides supervisors with the knowledge base and tools to effectively carry out their roles as well as ensure due diligence and compliance with the OH&S Act and Regulations.
