This programme is an opportunity to invest in your professional success, reflect on your individual leadership style, develop a plan to strengthen your influencing skills and learn how to use authority positively.

Outline

  • Taking on your first leadership role is a positive step in your career. Moving into a position where you will be leading teams and individuals brings with it a jumble of emotions including excitement, fear and anticipation. This programme is designed to support new leaders who are navigating this transition. The responsibilities of the role can be daunting, and involve new skills and priorities, as well as letting go of some old habits.
  • This programme is for you to gain confidence in your leadership qualities and abilities. Our role is to guide you in this transition by presenting models, frameworks, processes and experiences that will provide the scaffolding for new ways of working.

Objectives

  • Help you to develop and understand strategic perspective
  • Help you to lead and manage change
  • Understand yourself and your personal brand
  • Understand the role of leadership and develop effective leadership “styles”
  • Learn how to create a high-performance climate where people thrive
  • Consider how to motivate others and engage with the human and emotional dimensions of work

Who should attend

  • The programme is designed for people who are preparing to or have recently taken on enhanced management responsibilities and are moving from functional/operational roles into roles that are more strategic. It works best for those who have already undertaken our Transition to Management course, or who have been exposed to the core management skills curriculum on similar programmes or have equivalent experiences.

Coaching for action

  • This is best done in a coaching frame, as we view coaching as a high-level leadership skill. We will introduce the key aspects of coaching as a skill, as a process (the GROW model) and as a mindset.
