5. Equipment and Labelling

  • List equipment required for venepuncture

  • Discuss and list how to label samples accurately

6. Order of Draw

  • Explain the order of draw and its importance in sample collection

7. Policies and Procedures

  • Identify relevant policies and procedures in the area of work

8. Practical Skills Development

  • Discuss and practice venepuncture skills, including:

    • Timing

    • Using the less dominant hand

On completion of the Venepuncture training course, participants will have acquired the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to perform venepuncture safely and effectively, ensuring accurate sample collection and patient comfort.

Please note:

This course includes a full practical session; however, it is performed on a mannequin. Coming for the training is one aspect of working towards your clinical competency necessary to become a phlebotomist.

You will still be required to perform and demonstrate your clinical expertise to attain competency within a clinical settings based on local regulation. Please take note of what is expecting within your location to fully become a phlebotomist.
