We recommend 6 as a good starting age for violin but will consider younger students in some cases. For students 5 and younger, we first recommend our group classes as a way to become acquainted with music fundamentals before starting an instrument.
Violin is a good choice as a first instrument for young beginners because the size of the instrument can be fitted to the child and it’s excellent for developing an ear for pitch and tone early on. Older children and adults enjoy violin because of its beautiful tone and versatility.
Violin music encompasses all eras of classical music as well as pop, jazz, and country. Many of our violin students participate in school and community orchestras and ensembles.
We’re currently offering both in-person and online private lessons. Please contact me if you’d like to discuss getting started with piano, guitar, bass, violin, drums, or voice. (Voice and violin are currently only online.) All staff are vaccinated and well-masked and the lesson rooms are large and well-ventilated.
Our Young Child classes are primarily outside right now but I hope to be moving back to our inside/outside hybrid before too long. If there’s a class you’re interested in you can register here or email me with any questions.
Classes have small groups, distance, masks, clean instruments, and plenty of ventilation when indoors. Adults who participate in the Music and Me classes must be vaccinated and wear a medical-grade or double mask.
Families have the option of choosing between Suzuki or O'Connor methods, which initially focus on learning by ear, or traditional lessons that incorporate reading music
Lake Highlands School of Music is renowned in the Dallas area for their distinguished violin faculty. We offer unparalleled instruction in a variety of genres: including classical, jazz, rock, country, R & B, and pop
The Suzuki Method is based on the philosophy that music may be learned by young students in much the same way language is. Just as infants learn to speak by hearing and imitating their parents, young children learn music by being immersed in sounds and songs
Violin Lesson is offered by Swallow Hill Music
The Suzuki Violin Class is designed for age 5 and 6 violin beginner students
