Course Details

Our voice program teaches students proper breathing techniques, pitch control, development of tone and range, and artistic expression. Voice students participate in our recital program and sing with various instrumental groups within the school and, on occasion, in the community.

A number of our school students have auditioned and performed with the Hamilton Children’s Choir. All students are encouraged to take part in voice competitions and teachers aid them in preparing for their vocal exams.

We are proud to say that many of our students have received very high marks in their adjudications at The Greater Hamilton Music Festival.

The Hamilton School of Music is committed to teaching every student in a creative, yet structured manner focusing on their various interests and desires.
Our professionally trained teachers create a supportive and encouraging environment which respects the individual differences and learning styles of each student while fostering their self-esteem and motivation to succeed.

This vocal/piano coach/ composes, dabbles in acting and owns and runs a thriving small record production house in Caledonia with her partner, Nick Blagona, veteran record producer/engineer. She was top medalist in grades V, VIII, IX vocal performance at Western Conservatory of Music before leaving high school. Mary-Jane has been a performing professional musician (Classical, R&B, Folk, Pop, & Rock) for over forty years. She has been helping develop young talent and recording artists throughout her career. MJ studied classical voice, piano, harmony, history, counterpoint and composition for 20 years. She then spent 10 years in a touring rock band as backing vocalist, managed indie artists and bands for 10 years, has recently been publicist for a UK tour and booking agent for a local Hamilton artist touring the eastern seaboard. MJ sang in the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir for 10 years, has performed in musical theatre, acted in film and commercials and has been a recording session backing vocal arranger and performer for over 30 years.
