Description
Death is an inevitable part of life, but it is something that many of us prefer not to think about. "I'll cross that bridge when I come to it" is a common refrain, but this avoidance may prevent us from truly appreciating how precious our lives are. In fact, confronting the reality of death can enrich our lives, as it helps us to better understand the importance of making the most of the time we have.
This course is designed to help you face these challenging issues head-on, offering guidance on how to approach the topic of death without fear. It is divided into five video-based lessons, each exploring different aspects of death awareness:
- Why it’s important to be 'death aware': Understanding how recognizing our mortality can help us live more fully.
- Facing someone else's death: Exploring the emotional and practical issues that arise when someone we care about dies or is dying.
- Bereavement: Understanding the grief process and the key issues involved in coping with loss.
- Our own mortality: Discussing the futility of avoiding the fact that we are finite beings and how embracing this reality can lead to a more fulfilling life.
To support your learning, there is a Module Companion workbook that you will need to print out before starting. This workbook contains space for notes and exercises related to each lesson, which will help you consolidate your understanding and provide a useful reference for future reflection.
