Abrasive Wheels are used in a variety of different workplace scenarios, and when used improperly can be quite dangerous. According to The Provision and Use of Work Equipment (PUWER) 1998 act, all staff who use abrasive wheels must have proper training.

This course provides an overview of legislation, as well as illustrating the potential hazards of abrasive wheels and how to avoid them.

It is a legal requirement under The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) that all staff who use abrasive wheels receive abrasive wheels training.

Abrasive Wheels are used in many areas and can be highly dangerous if used by untrained personnel. This course, certified by the CPD, covers all of the legal requirements for the safe use and mounting of abrasive wheels, as well as an understanding that can be applied by delegates when they return to their own organisation.

Who should attend

This course is suitable for persons who are working with abrasive wheels or those who manage or supervise such activities.

 Objectives

This course is designed to help the individual understand their responsibilities within the workplace and is aimed at persons working with Abrasive Wheels.

The aim of this course is provide delegates with the knowledge and competence required to comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

  • Hazards, Risks and Risk Control Measures;
  • Accident Causation and Prevention;
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);
  • Types of Machines and Abrasive Wheels;
  • Noise Hazards;
  • Prior Use Safety Checks;
  • Mounting of Abrasive Wheels;
  • Dressing, Truing and Balancing;
  • Course Assessment.

Please note that this a class-room based course and there is no practical element.  Should you wish there to be a practical element we can organise for this to be delivered in-house, to your requirements at your site

Assessment

A short, proof of learning test on the day.

Certification

An OMS certificate of attendance will be issued upon the successful completion of the course.
