About The Artist
Embroidery artist Ruth Hughes creates modern abstract hand embroideries. She focuses on bold shapes, 3D textures, and exciting color combinations. She has developed her unique abstract style that began with a background in fine art and textiles.
Ruth draws inspiration from patterns found in nature, plants, and landscapes. The contrast of botanical elements and manmade materials is her constant inspiration. Ruth loves to explore sharp lines against soft shapes and translates this into her abstract work.
Following a free-flowing approach to design, each piece she creates develops naturally, guided by the fabric and materials she uses. Her work grows organically as she builds texture, depth, and shape, allowing the threads to dictate the design with each stitch.
