This workshop will teach you the basic sewing skills needed to create an inspiring and empowering protest badge to decorate/mend/ personalise your clothing.
Craftivism mixes activism and crafting. Using embroidery stitches to raise awareness of environmental, feminist, social or political issues through decorative textile techniques. This class will inspire thought-provoking artworks that merge slogans and compelling imagery into a textile patch.
This workshop will teach you the basic sewing skills needed to create an inspiring and empowering protest badge to decorate/mend/ personalise your clothing.
Use embroidery and textiles as a unique and personal voice inspired by a topic of your choice. The patch can engage with current social/ political issues whilst also adding decoration to your clothing. Why not add the patch to your clothes to cover holes, add strength to areas or add colour and pattern?
The small workshop size ensures valuable one-to-one teacher and participant time, allowing maximum engagement and assistance.
This is a sociable event that will be held in the Out of the Blue Drill hall cafe where refreshments can be bought whilst you embroider!
Remode Collective was born out of a climate change project developed by The Welcoming Association from April 2015 to March 2017. During that time, The Welcoming organised a series of upcycling workshops and ran a textile programme called ‘Learn to Sew’.
