Craftivism mixes activism and crafting. Using embroidery stitches to raise awareness of environmental, feminist, social or political issues through decorative textile techniques. This class will inspire thought-provoking artworks that merge slogans and compelling imagery into a textile patch.

This workshop will teach you the basic sewing skills needed to create an inspiring and empowering protest badge to decorate/mend/ personalise your clothing.

Use embroidery and textiles as a unique and personal voice inspired by a topic of your choice. The patch can engage with current social/ political issues whilst also adding decoration to your clothing. Why not add the patch to your clothes to cover holes, add strength to areas or add colour and pattern?

  • Create a design with background and text.
  • Learn how to make hand-stitched patches using repurposed materials.
  • Learn basic decorative embroidery techniques.
  • Prepare and apply Applique and Reverse applique techniques.

The small workshop size ensures valuable one-to-one teacher and participant time, allowing maximum engagement and assistance.

This is a sociable event that will be held in the Out of the Blue Drill hall cafe where refreshments can be bought whilst you embroider!
