The New York Film Academy’s 12-Week Evening After Effects workshop is designed to introduce students to the principles and techniques of visual effects and motion graphics. This is accomplished through a combination of lecture, demonstration and in-class, hands-on exercises using Adobe After Effects.
During this workshop, students complete projects to which they must apply both theoretical design techniques and practical animation skills. By the end of the workshop, students gain a comprehensive knowledge of After Effects, and understanding of designing meaningful work through animated visual storytelling.
The New York Film Academy believes in a hands-on approach that allows students to gain experience in After Effects, while training them as storytellers as well. We find that the best approach to students gaining experience is for them to create and work on their own projects. During the course students will finish projects that become more challenging as the course progresses.
Students gain an in-depth understanding of Adobe After Effects, and are introduced to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. The emphasis of the class is text illustration, yet students also learn additional skills. Students are taught basic graphic design principles, basic compositing of videos and how to work with green screen footage.
By the completion of this course, students will complete projects and several in-class assignments. Each project demonstrates the student’s understanding of the theory and technical skills they were taught in class.
The New York Film Academy was founded by veteran producer Jerry Sherlock in 1992, who produced such classics as "The Hunt for the Red October". Encouraged by friends of his who wanted to send their children to film school.
But found the prices too costly, Sherlock designed a school that was not only affordable, but more importantly, was founded on the principle of learning by doing.
