Course Details

An apprenticeship is a real job with an accompanying skills development programme. It is a way to earn and learn, gaining valuable skills, knowledge and behaviours whilst in a specific job role.

Adult Care Workers are frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible.

To work in care is to make a positive difference to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges.

Adult Care Workers provide high quality compassionate care and support via person centred care.

Knowledge, skills and behaviour

  • Championing health and wellbeing

  • What the ‘duty of care’ is in practice

  • Development and creation of a care plans

  • Supporting individuals to remain safe from harm.

Typical job roles

  • Support Worker, Care Assistant, Nursing Home Assistant.

Completion and certification

Upon successful completion of the end point assessment, the apprentice will have fully demonstrated their competence in the subject area and be awarded with their apprenticeship certificates at either a pass, merit or distinction.

End point assessment

Apprentices will be assessed via an independent end point assessment organisation (EPAO) to confirm competence. This will be arranged in advance and will consist of:

  • Situational judgement test

  • Professional discussion.

Progression opportunities

Discussions will take place with all apprentices to help them plan the next steps on their career path. Completion of the apprenticeship can help progression to higher levels of apprenticeships, further training or promotion and businesses will benefit from high performing staff.
