Course Details

In this class you'll learn the process of making your own pair of custom knit leggings to get your perfect fit and style.

These are fun to make, and you'll come away with the know-how, and a pattern made exclusively for you, so you can design more for yourself. You'll also gain greater knowledge of knit fabrics to feel confident when shopping for future projects - for you or to give as gifts.

 

What You'll Learn

  • Working with knit fabrics

  • Working with a pattern

  • Adjusting a pattern

  • Pattern placement (to make sure nothing odd shows up in an unfortunate place on your leggings)

  • Pinning fabric to patterns in preparation for cutting

  • Pattern cutting

  • How to sew a crotch (U-curve)

  • Piecing together legs

  • Stitches on your machine that are suitable for sewing knits

  • Hemming knit fabrics

  • Attaching a waistband

  • Finishing edges with just a sewing machine (no serger required!)

  • PLUS you get a custom-made pattern exclusively for you

 

Prerequisites

This class is for anyone who already knows how to sew, or the confident beginner who knows how to use a sewing machine and basic sewing techniques.

 

Tools & Supplies

You will need:

  • 4-way stretch knit fabric with at least 50% stretch (54" or 60" wide)

  • Jersey / Ballpoint / Stretch machine needle

  • Sewing machine - Please review the tools & supplies list carefully for any machine hardware requirements or contact us with any questions.

  • Sewing kit:

    • Pins or clips

    • Pin cushion (if you're using pins)

    • Scissors

    • Snips

    • Seam ripper

    • Fabric markers or chalk

    • Measuring tape

    • Ruler

    • Cutting mat

    • Rotary cutter

    • Extra sewing machine needles

    • Find links to these common sewing kit items in the shop.

  • All-purpose thread

 

Fabric requirements will vary based on sizes. I will help guide you on the necessary fabric after registration.

Remember to pre-wash and dry your fabric before class.
