About the Course
The course is based on an immersive methodology using the textbook Al-Arabiyah Bayna Yaddayk. Students will focus on three skills: speaking, writing and reading with an intention to understand the vocabulary of the Quran.

This course is intended for beginners who can read Quranic Arabic with very little or no understanding. The course is taught by a native Arabic teacher using a predominantly immersive approach.

A love for the Arabic language and a desire to join more than 400 million people across the globe who speak it, is what drew a diverse group to the   Saturday classes at the Awqaf SA Arabic Language Course in Greenside, Johannesburg during 2018.

Drawing on an immersive methodology, the teacher, Mouhhssin Bourqqadi immediately put the students to work with introductory conversations. Basic grammar rules, writing and pronunciation were also tackled.

“It’s a different sound, almost like a snore… ‘?’, now say ‘??’…” Arabic has entire words made up of sounds, very unfamiliar to the mouth. It is a unique language in which the grammar and morphology function very differently to others. And most noticeably, it is  written from left to right. There is a heartfelt appreciation in decoding the swirling text and discovering the lyrical beauty in the words.
