Assertive Behaviour
Course aim
Although behaving assertively may not ensure that you get the results you want – the politest requests may be declined by some people – it is a fact that when you communicate your needs honestly, openly and directly you will give both yourself and the other party the opportunity to achieve the result you both desire. This principle applies whether you are returning foods to a supplier, negotiating a deal with a customer or simply have a discussion at a meeting.
This course is designed to give participants a greater understanding of assertive behaviour and to encourage enhanced performance in the workplace by building self-confidence and developing appropriate skills and techniques.
Course overview
By the end of the course you will:
Have identified and explored the differences between submissive, aggressive and assertive behaviour
Be able to demonstrate the importance of asserting your rights without infringing those of others
Have practiced the use of three key assertiveness techniques
Have the ability to demonstrate the use of skills and techniques which will give you the best chance of achieving your needs
Recognise how we communicate through body language
Practice making requests and saying ‘no’ without feeling guilty
Have produced a personal assertiveness skills action plan for implementation back in the workplace
Course suitable for
Anyone looking for a greater understanding of assertive behaviour.
ALS became a partner of ACT Training in January 2017, and joined the Cardiff and Vale College (CAVC) Group.
We are really excited to join forces with ACT and the wider CAVC network, as together we are resilient and can retain the capacity to continue to invest, develop provision, deliver more and increase opportunities to best support individuals, communities and employers across the region. We continue to operate under the ALS brand, identity and management structure.
ACT have been a member of the Cardiff and Vale College (CAVC) Group since 2016, a partnership that created the country’s largest work-based learning provider and a skills powerhouse for the Cardiff Capital Region, for Wales and beyond.
The addition of ALS further increases capacity for apprenticeships, traineeships, professional qualifications and accredited training; strengthening the Group’s ability to effectively meet the growing skills requirements of employers throughout the region.
The course will improve your vocal skills and help you to use your voice more effectively. Through a variety of vocal and physical exercises you will develop your ability to communicate more successfully, use your voice with assurance and to command vocal respect.
This is a 1 day course (day 1 of our 3 day workshop) and therefore is seen as an introduction to the Assertiveness model only. The course allows participants to identify specific areas in life they would like to change.
