Programme outcomes
This programme offers a learning arena for the students to gain knowledge of the industrial and operational skills required by hospitality industry. During the programme the student will learn the industrial skills of the core operation of hospitality like Front Office, Food Production, Bakery & Patisserie, Accommodation Operation and Food & Beverage Service along with general management skills.
During the programme students will learn through hands-on experience, on the job training and research and projects. Students manage various national and international level events at the college helping them in working as a team. Students will also undergo one semester for industrial training where they will get apt industry experience.

To prepare students with the operational aspects and knowledge of the underlying principles of the International Hospitality Industry.
To familiarize students with the practical aspects of the hospitality industry and the strategic management issues involved in operating Hotels, Resorts, Cruise Liners, Restaurants and Catering Organisations.

To train students for both operational and administrative duties at supervisory and management positions.
Approval & affiliation
Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology runs Four Years BHMCT programme as designed by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University - the affiliating University. The norms and standards for the delivery of the course - as laid down by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of HRD, and Government of India and the affiliating University - are followed at the institute. The BHMCT programme is divided into eight semesters each of five months duration.
Pedagogy
The aim of the Institute is to develop it as a centre of excellence in hospitality education, training its students to use multiple approaches to comprehend the nature of the hotel business and learn to work in cohesive manner in a team for achieving the objective of the industry.
The students are trained to use various approaches to analyse the industry and the competition in depth. They are groomed to industry norms. Different methods of teaching have been adopted for training such as case studies, lectures, seminars, group discussions, presentations, role playing etc and we prepare them as managers with path finding qualities and help them to become go-getters with objective decision making capabilities.
From the very first semester, students are sent for in-house training at the guesthouse and restaurant complex of the Trust Society to have the basic idea of operations in hotels.
The professional teaching methodology comprises of study through presentations made with LCD Projector and other training aids. Apart from class lectures, students have the facility to download study material from computers which enables faculty to interact with them to ensure better time management.
Intake and reservation policy of seats
AICTE approved intake for the programme is 120. Out of which 85% seats are reserved for Delhi candidates and 15% for outside Delhi candidates.
Reservation
Reservation for specific categories shall be as per the guidelines of Government of NCT of Delhi.
Eligibility criteria
The eligibility for the admission to 4 years BHMCT programme as stipulated by GGSIP University requires:
Pass in 12th Class of 10+2 of CBSE or equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and must also have passed English (core or elective or functional) as a subject.
Admission procedure
The admissions are carried out strictly on merit basis through a Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. The University conducts central counselling for the college affiliated with it.
Commencement of academic session
Odd Semesters: Odd semesters commence on 1 August of every academic year and the end-term examinations are held in the month of December.
Even Semesters: Even semesters commence in the month of January of every academic year and the end-term examinations are held in the month of May -June.
Examination & evaluation procedure
Examinations are a method to judge the level of understanding of the subjects that have been taught to students at the Institute. The 4 year period is divided into 8 semesters.
The Examinations are divided into two:
Internal Examinations
External Examinations
The examination and evaluation is carried out according to the scheme laid down by GGSIP University. Every paper (for theory and practical) is of 100 marks. In every paper students are evaluated through an end term semester examination conducted by the university and through internal / continuous evaluation by the institute. The internal evaluation is conducted on the basis of written tests, presentations, assignments, seminars, projects, etc.
Pass percentage* in each paper is 40% (w.e.f. Batch 2015 onwards). If the student passes a paper, assigned credits for the paper shall be awarded to him. The examination and evaluation are conducted as per the procedures as laid down by GGSIP University for BHMCT programme.
Re-appear & maximum duration
A student who fails in a paper (obtains less than 40% marks w.e.f. Batch 2015 onwards) shall be allowed to re-appear in an examination of the course in the subsequent year. The re-appearing students who secured less than 40% (w.e.f. Batch 2015 onwards) marks in the teacher’s continuous evaluation have the option to repeat and improve the class test performance with the next batch of students, in such cases the improved internal marks shall be accounted for.
Students who are eligible to reappear in an examination shall have to apply to the Controller of Examinations through the Institute to be allowed to reappear in an examination and pay the fees prescribed by the University. Maximum permissible period to complete BHMCT programme is six years (n+2) years, where ‘n’ stands for duration of course.
Course structure
The Degree of Bachelor in Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT) is awarded by the G.G.S.I.P. University, Delhi and is recognized by the UGC/AICTE.
The total number of the credits of the BHMCT Programme is 200 credits. Each student shall be required to appear for examination in all courses. However, for the award of the degree a student should secure at least 190 credits and he or she has successfully completed the courses on:
22 Weeks Industry Internship (BHCT – 361/ 362) and
Research Project Report (BHCT- 452)
Note: The students are required to choose between Core electives I or II in Seventh and Eight Semesters. All the 3 subjects and 2 practical will be compulsory to study from any one of the core elective as per their choice of area of specialization in Semester 7 and 8. The core electives shall be floated if minimum number of students opting for it is 25 per cent of the intake in the course.
10 weeks Industrial Training after the end of 2nd Semester.
20 Weeks Functional Exposure Training during 6th Semester.
Note: The Total Credits of the BHMCT Programme ( w. e f. 2008-2017) is 223 credits. Each student should compulsorily be required to register himself / herself for all the courses of the programme and should therefore also appear in the Examination of all courses of the programme. The students would be eligible for the award of the degree if he/she is able to earn a minimum of 212 credits and he or she has successfully completed the courses on Summer Training Report (bhct 215), Functional Exposure Training Report (bhct 302) and Project Report (bhct- 460).
Clearance procedure
All students are required to obtain clearance from the Institute before appearing for the End Term Exams failing which Admit Cards will not be issued to the students.
Clearance involves
Depositing the library books and library cards to the library.
Paying all outstanding dues.
Paying any fines for breakages, indiscipline etc.
Obtaining the log book (applicable to training students).
Vacating the lockers.
