Our bachelor of information technology degree is accredited at professional level by the australian computer society (acs) and, through the seoul accord, is recognised in other countries. The seoul accord is a multi-lateral agreement that allows acs accreditation to be recognised globally. This means when you graduate, your degree will be recognised by other countries who are members of the accord. 

Overview

  • Are you interested in solving complex technical puzzles and being challenged to rapidly adapt and innovate in a continuously changing IT field? 
  • Cyber security jobs are in high demand and there is an increase in the number of specialties within this ICT area. Graduate from UniSQ workplace-ready with sound knowledge of cyber security principles and policy. 
  • Study UniSQ’s Networking and Cyber Security major and learn to design, install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain networks and their operating systems, including Linux and Windows. Explore interface networks with wide area networks (WANs) and become familiar with solving problems in computer networks, VoIP, video conferencing, and network services. 
  • Put your studies into practice through an industry-based project or work experience during a final-year capstone course.
  • You can choose to combine this major with a second IT major or a selection of four-unit minors or elective courses. You also have the opportunity to choose a major across a different study area at UniSQ, such as Science, Law, Business or Arts, to suit your individual career path.

Further study

  • If you're interested in postgraduate study, you can go on to enrol in the Master of Information Technology, Master of Data Science or Master of Cyber Security.

Career outcomes

  • Upon graduation you can find jobs as a network engineer or network security engineer, network analyst, cyber security engineer, data security officer, business information security analyst, or IT system security analyst, IoT security specialist, network administrator etc.
  • Graduates have the knowledge of computer networking, Internet of Things, wireless networking, networking security, IoT security, and cyber security-related fields, such as healthcare, national and company information system security, wireless networking security.

Inherent requirements

  • There are inherent requirements that must be met in order to successfully complete this degree. Inherent requirements are fundamental skills, capabilities and knowledge that students must be able to demonstrate in order to achieve the essential learning outcomes of the degree, while maintaining the academic integrity of the degree. Please read and understand the inherent requirements specific to the Bachelor of Information Technology before applying.
  • If you think you may experience any problems meeting inherent requirements, you can talk to a Student Equity Officer about reasonable adjustments that may be put in place to assist you. Any reasonable adjustments made must not fundamentally change the nature of the inherent requirement.

Tafe (VET) qualification

  • If you have completed a qualification from a TAFE or qualified private provider, you may be able to use these qualifications to meet UniSQ's entry requirements.

Work and life experience

  • You may be able to use your work experience and other adjustment factors to increase your selection rank and meet UniSQ's entry requirements.

English language requirements

  • You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subscore. UniSQ also accepts other English language proficiency tests.
  • If you don't meet the English language requirements, you can apply to study UniSQ's UniReady courses TPP0122 and TPP0123, or the English for Academic Purposes EAP2 pathway program through the Union Institute of Language (UIL).

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

  • You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.
