The Dance Academy is thrilled to be embarking on our thirteeth season of dance in St. John’s. The Dance Academy was established in 2009 with the vision of providing quality dance instruction where students can learn the art of dance while enhancing social skills and self esteem.
We strive to provide every child with movement experiences which are meaningful and enjoyable, while enhancing motor skill development, social skills and an overall focus on an active, healthy lifestyle.
The development of basic to advanced technique as the foundation of all dance with emphasis on dramatic expression through barre exercise and stretches for flexibility, strength, control, balance, poise, and grace.
Competitive Dance is available for dancers aged 5 and up.
Dancers will study ballet technique in soft shoe and on pointe to classical music with a focus on grace, posture, balance, jumps, turns, extensions, and expression.
Students are required to wear a body suit or fitted top with spandex shorts, leggings or tights. Students are required to wear beige jazz/modern shoes with their hair in a pony tail or bun out of their face.
The Syllabus used incorporates Classical, Free Movement and Character work in nine grades of examination (Primary to Grade 8 Award). Serious students who are sufficiently prepared have the option of taking an examination, in which their work is evaluated by a visiting RAD examiner.
