These classes each have a unique syllabus created by Caelia to suit the needs of the dancers, which loosely follows the curriculum of the Royal Academy of Dance. During the Training portion of the season (Sep to Dec).
Students will learn:
The Choreography phase (Jan to Jun) places less focus on technical exercises, but draws on the training from the first part of the year. Ballet develops strength, balance, flexibility, stamina, stage presence, memory, and cognitive skills, and promotes emotional and artistic expression. It also creates a solid foundation for any other discipline, which makes it a fantastic starting point for your journey into the world of dance.
Dance Alive Studios was created in the summer of 2017 to meet the changing needs of adult dancers in the Saskatoon community. Caelia Gardiner, the owner and Artistic Director of DAS, developed the adult dance program at Juliette’s Dance Centre from 2011 to 2017.
This program has become unique in the field – it provides aspiring adult dancers with progressive levels of focused training at their desired level. Recreational dance is the common stream, but more intense training opportunities are available upon request (group and solo competition, examination, teacher training, etc.).
Pointe is the most highly disciplined and physically challenging extension of ballet. Only technically proficient upper level students who have mastered the skills of basic and advanced movement will be selected to study pointe work.
Ballet originated in the sixteenth and seventeenth century French courts, and was further developed in England, Italy, and Russia as a concert dance form. Ballet develops strength, posture, flexibility, coordination and focus.
Ballet is often referred to as the “foundation of dance”. Dancers who study ballet are learning technique, terminology, and self-discipline.
Our Ballet program follows The Royal Academy of Dancing (R.A.D.) syllabus. The classes incorporate the traditional study of classical ballet with free movement and character dance.
The structure and discipline of ballet class allow students to develop balance, poise, flexibility and strength, which are necessary for all dance forms. Our ballet classes include both classical and lyrical combinations in order to broaden our student's exposure to different styles of ballet
