Your AAT journey starts here at Derby College Group – and, with this award, there is no need for any prior accounting knowledge. The qualification will give you a solid background in single entry bookkeeping.
This is a basic entry-level qualification and can provide a solid grounding for students with no previous bookkeeping knowledge or experience, before they move on to the foundation-level qualifications.
You can study the Access Award in Bookkeeping as a short course or as part of a series of courses. These courses can be studied back-to-back over a year or alternatively you can take individual courses based on what you want.

You do not need any prior accounting knowledge as this course will give you a solid background in single entry bookkeeping. We would recommend that you first studied the Access Award in Business Skills or appropriate business experience.
A part-time Accounting (Bookkeeping) Level 1 course, offering the ideal first step towards a new career in bookkeeping or accounts.
Bookkeeping focuses on the recording and handling daily financial transactions such as expenses, purchases, sales and receipts. This is a regular record-keeping activity that is the basis of all the economic reports.
The course will introduce students to the double-entry bookkeeping system, and associated documents and processes. Students will reach the stage of extracting an initial trial balance, before any adjustments are made.
At the end of the course participants will be familiar with the basic principles of double entry bookkeeping, and will have prepared trial balances, profit and loss accounts and balance sheets to a basic level.
