Botanical Drawing & Art (Beginners Class)

You will draw objects and develop skills and powers of observation in the use of ellipses, perspective and tone. You will also draw the figure from both photographs and a live model. This course is good for beginners and for people who have been out of drawing practice.

The Art Department is the largest secondary school art department in the country. The high level of success achieved by the Art learners of the NSA over the past 35 years bears witness to the outstanding tuition provided by committed and talented teachers who are specialists in their fields.

This course will explore different techniques and mediums used in traditional botanical illustration. It will focus on the accurate drawing of plant material, the application of tonal values and the mixing and layering of watercolour paint.

This course is aimed at enthusiastic individuals who would like to get messy, explore, and spark their creativity back to life. No prior learning is expected to be in place, though sensitivity to the elements and principles of design and colour theory will be beneficial.
