Our classes are designed for adults and children at all levels of proficiency, from complete beginners to those who are well-experienced in a language.

Languages are regularly offered in these courses and programs. We offer advanced opportunities for language study in Spanish and French and support students who learned language in family/community as well as classroom settings.
Classes are available in Mandarin Chinese for children 3-12 years old. We strive to make our classes fun and approachable as they acquire a new language.

The CALA approach to learning languages focuses on high-frequency vocabulary—the words, phrases, expressions, and grammar that you are most likely to encounter in day-to-day life. We go narrow-and-deep with this vocabulary.
In this course, the student will be able to develop socially and culturally appropriate proficiency in interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes at the novice mid-level in Mandarin Chinese. Note: Students must pass this course with a C or better to continue to CHI1121. ( 4 hr. lecture )
