We appreciate your interest in Aum Performing Arts. The school originally began as Natya Vidyalaya, a Bharathanatyam school established in 1989 at Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India by Smt. Akila Sathyanarayanan, a renowned direct disciple of the legendary Kalaimamani Pakkirisamy Pillai .
Training in the movements of Bharathanatyam steps, gestures and other elements, progressing to various recital items such as alaripu, thillanas, jathiswarams, varnamsand other compositions upto the performance of recitals namely Salangai Pooja and Arangetram.
Bharatanatyam originated in southern India in the state of Tamilnadu. It started as a temple dance tradition called Dasiyattam (the dance of the maid-servants) 2000 years ago and is perhaps the most advanced and evolved dance form of all the classical Indian dance forms.
