In the modern world an organisation is often challenged to respond to crises; catastrophe and potential disasters can threaten our customers or our business or embarrass our stakeholders or staff at any moment.

No matter what size your business or what industry you work in, issues such as supply chain destabilisation, forced closure, death in the workplace, or an unexpected disaster can suddenly occur and demand our attention and intelligent management response.

Most importantly, that means being prepared and anticipating crises. On this course, you’ll be introduced to the theory and practice of crisis management.

  • You’ll be introduced to models of how to manage crises and real examples of global crises, looking at how to prepare for crises and how to respond to them.
  • You’ll be presented with the key concepts of Public and Community Relations and a communications crisis response, looking at the potential future challenges likely to impact on your industry, environment, and future, formulating your own ‘crisis plan’.
  • Considering a potential crisis for your specific industry sector, you’ll complete tasks from a stakeholder’s perspective to reflect on industry, government, and society.
  • By the end of the course, you will have put together your own crisis management plan and have lots of notes and ideas on different crisis management models to take away with you. You’ll also leave with a greater confidence to respond effectively to any crisis.

What you’ll study
