If you prefer a lesson by yourself, we can book a private lesson, and private rates apply. Classes are for both crochet or knitting, depending on the student's needs. We schedule "Beginner" classes on a rolling basis rather than wait for a specific day in a month.
Class Information
We run our classes Tuesday, Thursday, at 11:30, and Saturday at 1:30. If you prefer a lesson by yourself, we can book a private lesson, and private rates apply. Classes are for both crochet or knitting, depending on the student's needs. We schedule "Beginner" classes on a rolling basis rather than wait for a specific day in a month. Help sessions are scheduled separately from a Beginner class.
We do not accept "Walk Ins/Drop Ins" as we are often teaching and find this disruptive to the class. Please call ahead, and we are happy to give you a time to pop in for help!
A Story About Knitting....
A Garden For Knitters has a very humble beginning. In 2011, I was sidelined from my full time job as a teacher due to health issues. Set adrift from a normally very busy life, I was looking for something to occupy my hands and mind as I redefined who I was. On a very warm, July day, I took a day trip to Bath, ME where I found a local yarn store.
Walking in out of curiosity, I was instantly in awe of all of the beautiful yarns surrounding me. Something immediately clicked. I left the store with several gorgeous skeins of yarn (of course!), a simple pattern, and thus began my journey of rediscovering a fiber art that was taught to me long ago. I dove in full steam, and never looked back.
Now I am blessed with balancing my family, my health, and the wonderful opportunity of sharing with others my passion for fiber and knitting (and, yes, a little spinning!).
The shop is a natural extension of the instructional portion of our business. When teaching knitting, we naturally wanted to share our passion for natural fibers (wool, alpaca, cashmere, cotton, silk, to name a few) and all of the beautiful colors that can arise from today's dying methods. Our focus is on offering clients the opportunity to experience yarns that are not normally found in a typical yarn shop, while still having some favorites available.
We are tapping into the cottage industries, bringing you yarns from small, independent fiber producers and dyers, especially those with organic methods, or who produce a quality product from their own flocks. We hope you enjoy these unique knitting adventures while supporting small businesses.
