This is a Dolby-endorsed class that explains the Dolby Vision HDR workflow, from production to finishing and teaches the Dolby Vision toolset. It covers the training required for Dolby Vision facility certification plus an extended module on grading for optimum HDR effect.

This course is designed for those who are working in or for a Dolby Vision certified facility but who have not yet done the Dolby Professional Tool Training.

The course is divided into five modules:

  • Theory and Overview
  • System Installation and Setup
  • Color Grading
  • QC and Deliverables
  • Test Project

The course covers a full overview of Dolby Vision in the home and in the cinema, the terminology, and the content creation process.

Module 2 covers the requirements for color grading Dolby Vision including the HDR display, color grading software, the CMU, and the Dolby Professional Tools.

The color grading section includes the necessary image and metadata components needed for a mezzanine file and Dolby Vision delivery. There is an extended practical session to experience the differences in HDR grading, but also to learn how to create the necessary metadata levels, how to get the most from tone mapping with the CMU.

Module 4 demonstrates how to run quality control checks on the mastered material and metadata and we finish with a short practical grade with SDR and HDR deliverables.
