Course Aims

This course will provide the industry-required qualification and the knowledge, behaviours and skills for safe working with children and young people in a residential childcare setting.

What will I study?

You will learn about safeguarding and protection, and the legislation the sector operates within. You will learn about topics including children's and young people's development, wellbeing and resilience, positive relationships and attachments, health and safety, sexual exploitation, communication, positive behaviour and positive outcomes.

This diploma also offers you the opportunity to cover optional topics which are particularly suited to specific residential childcare and respite care settings.

How will I be assessed?

This course will be assessed through a range of methods such as assignments, observation and professional discussion.  It is internally assessed and externally quality assured.

Entry requirements

Typically you will have prior knowledge and experience of working in this sector but this is not always required. You will have a minimum of Level 2/Grade 4 in English.

You must be employed or have an employer willing to support a work placement with level 3 work activities for minimum 16 hours per week for the duration of the course.
