Overview
As well as learning the basics of electrical engineering, you will undertake hands-on learning by building prototype electronic circuits, learn how to solder circuit boards, programme microcontrollers and industrial PLCs, and learn how our world is being reshaped by the interconnection of smart devices over the 5g network in what is being called the I.O.T - Internet of Things.
We consider the teaching of Electronics at Belfast Met to be amongst the highest standard throughout the UK; we are the only college in N.I this year whose electronic engineering students qualified for the finals of the World Skills Competition - securing 4 of the 8 places against UK wide competition. This course is designed to cover a broad spectrum of engineering subjects allowing you to obtain the relevant skills and qualification to progress to higher education in an engineering discipline and to obtain skills relevant to industry.

The NVQ is achieved via work/site based assessment and portfolio building and AM2. Full support and guidance from an Able Skills NVQ Assessor will be provided and readily available throughout. NVQ Level 3 is a requirement for those looking to achieve JIB Gold Card status.
All electrical installation work must be carried out to the relative standards of the latest amendment of the Wiring Regulations.

This course is aimed at those who need a basic understanding of electrical principles and practice. With no entry requirements delegates will be able to develop a basic understanding of what electricity is and how it works.
This course completes the required element to underpin an apprenticeship in electrical installation. It is a valuable course which increases employability within the Building Services industry.
