Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) is a safety procedure used in to ensure that dangerous machinery or energy sources are properly shut off and unable to be started up again while maintenance or repairs are being performed.

The process involves isolating the equipment from its energy source(s) and locking or tagging the isolating device(s) to prevent the equipment from being accidentally energized.

  • Understand the principles of hazardous energy control and the importance of LOTO procedures in preventing accidents and injuries.

  • Identifying the different types of hazardous energy sources and the methods used to control them.

  • Recognizing the importance of clear communication and teamwork when performing LOTO procedures.

  • Learning how to select the appropriate LOTO devices for specific types of equipment and energy sources.

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of authorized and affected personnel in a LOTO procedure.

  • steps involved in a LOTO procedure, including how to identify energy sources, isolate equipment, and apply locks and tags to prevent accidental re-energization.

  • LOTO Devices: how to select the appropriate device for the specific equipment.
