Emergency First Aid and CPR is an eight hour in-class course, or offered in a blended learning format which is up to three hours of online training plus five hours in-class with an instructor.

Duration

8 hours total time – 8 hours in class, or two hours online in combination with three hours in class for all blended learning options.

Red Cross First Aid Instructor or Instructor Trainer

Classes are offered at:

  • Algonquin College – Woodroffe Campus
  • St. Aidan’s Church
  • St John The Apostle
  • The Bronson Centre

Completion Requirements

100% attendance, skills demonstration, and 75% min. passing grade on written exam

Certification

3-year certification in Emergency First Aid, CPR Level A, C, or HCP, and AED

Recertification

Where provincial/territorial legislation allows, 3-4 hours; includes CPR Level C.

Course Content

  • Preparing to respond
  • The EMS system
  • Check, Call, Care
  • Airway emergencies
  • Breathing and circulation emergencies
  • First aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Wound care

Includes any other content required by specific legislation.
