This course provides a clear understanding of the responsibilities, duties and role of a Fire Safety Manager (FSM). A two day course, with the second day optional for those that want a more indepth understanding (highly recommended). This course is available at 3 different levels, Operational, Tactical & Strategic.

Good management of fire safety is essential to ensure that fires are:

  • Unlikely to occur
  • That if they do occur, they are likely to be controlled and/or contained safely
  • And, if a fire does occur and grow, all relevant persons can escape to a place of total safety easily and quickly.

The management of fire safety could be the responsibility of the ‘Fire Safety Manager’ and often this role is added to a more generic management position.

Therefore FCS has produced a 2-day course that enables delegates to fully understand this critical role and the identified responsibilities for fire safety. It also allows attendees the benefit of assisting their organisation to be compliant with legislation, regulations, and guidance.

The roles and responsibilities of a Fire Safety Manager (FSM) will depend on several factors including: the management structure & size of the organisation, the authority of the FSM, and the resources available.

The responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding your legal responsibilities/duties
  • Preventing fires from occurring
  • Knowing the fire safety features of building and how to maintain them
  • Identifying non-compliance and how to rectify deficiencies
  • Carry out/monitor the fire risk assessment
  • Understanding the emergency plans and evacuation strategies
  • Understanding the fire safety policies & arrangements of your organisation
  • Testing & maintenance of active & passive fire safety measures
  • Training of employees
  • Liaising/cooperation with employees, contractors and enforcing authorities
  • Keeping records of tests, maintenance, and training
  • Reviewing the fire risk assessment, training, and fire safety arrangements.
