This half day course is designed for persons who are responsible for overseeing fire safety, designated fire marshals and wardens and anybody who needs to know how to use fire extinguishers. The aim of the course is to cover the role of the designated fire marshals, wardens and give students the opportunity to learn about different types of extinguishers and how to use them correctly.

On conclusion of the course students will have a better understanding of the following subjects and will have had the opportunity to have put out a live fire with an extinguisher.

  • Role and responsibilities
  • Fire routines and evacuations
  • The Law relating to fire safety
  • Basic fire risk assessment
  • Common causes of fire
  • Chemistry of fire and how fire spreads
  • Organising fire drills
  • Human behaviour
  • System testing and recording
  • Theory and practical use of extinguishers.
