Introduction:

Harness offers a one-day Fire Team Leader training course that covers all the skills and knowledge required to control emergencies and critical situations and coordinate responses in the resources and infrastructure industries. 

It applies to those who work in supervisory roles and successful participants will be awarded the Unit of Competency
- RIIERR405 Control emergencies and critical situations
- MSMWHS212 Undertake first response to fire incident
- MSMWHS216 Operate breathing apparatus

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • RIIERR405 - Control Emergencies and Critical Situations

Learning Methods:

The mode of delivery for this course is face to face in a classroom environment as well as significant practical elements outside of the classroom. 

In the delivery of this course, our trainers focus on providing an individualised adult learning environment that considers the learner’s experience and employment history. 

Theory is presented in a supportive learner centered environment designed to provide functional theoretical knowledge that is directly applicable to real world tasks.

Learning materials provided include the Harness student handbook and participants will be advised in advance of attending the course if there are any materials to be provided by them.

The assessment for this course has been designed to assess the individual to the Australian Qualification Framework, relevant Training Package, Australian and Industry expectations, as well as Commonwealth and State Legislation. 

 

Course Content

Throughout the Harness course our trainers will cover off the below operations ensuring a comprehensive understanding of both practical and theoretical elements. What will you learn as a Fire Team Leader? 

 

Plan and prepare to control emergencies and critical situations:

  • Access, interpret, and apply emergency and critical situation documentation 

  • Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm written and oral work instructions 

  • Identify and assess potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures 

  • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities 

  • Communicate and coordinate activities with others 

 

Control critical situations 

  • Identify developing, emerging and existing critical situations and take appropriate action

  • Locate and activate alarms

  • Control and minimise the situation

 

Coordinate response to emergencies 

  • Communicate information and instructions clearly, concisely and accurately in a suitable format for needs of personnel 

  • Obtain, clarify and apply advice received from emergency personnel 

  • Interpret and apply advice to required emergency procedures 

  • Take immediate action to make situation safe and minimise risks 

  • Process required written reports and records according to workplace policies and procedures
