Video game and animation is currently the fastest-growing sector in the media industry, offering abundant opportunities for creative individuals. This course will help you acquire the essential design and production skills necessary to thrive in this exciting field of work.

Throughout the programme, you will explore a diverse range of topics, including 2D artwork, character, creature, and environment design, 3D character, environment, and prop modelling, rigging, animation, lighting, rendering, digital painting, game design, storyboarding, narrative, and even life drawing. These comprehensive subjects will provide you with a well-rounded skill set, preparing you for a successful career in this dynamic and ever-evolving industry.

You will be taught by lecturers with extensive experience in the industry, and they will fully support you in developing confidence, interpersonal skills, and good working practices, all of which will improve your employability. You will collaborate closely with fellow students, and you’ll develop your skills in industry-standard interactive media rooms, complete with high-spec gaming PCs.

As part of this study programme, you will develop your maths and English skills, attend tutorials and Individual Development (ID). You will also complete an extended industry placement. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.

Assessment Method

You will be assessed through practical projects in studios and workshops and written assignments.

Future Opportunties

You could progress to a degree in computer animation, video game development, character concepts or art and design, or choose the Games & Animation Production degree at University Centre Weston. You will also be able to access studio junior or freelance animator roles.

Entry Requirements

You will need five GCSE’s at grade 9-4 including an art related subject and English, or a qualifying Level 2 qualification (merit). A strong portfolio of work, plus a successful interview will be required.
