Gas Detection and Air Monitoring
is an Entry-Level training course required for anyone who uses gas detection and air monitoring equipment in the workplace. It is also available at the "Become an Instructor" level.
Gas Detection and Air Monitoring may be a required component of Confined Space Entry/Monitor training. Relevant supplementary courses may include H2S Alive and/or WHMIS.
Learning Objectives & Specific Outcomes:
Many industrial workplaces (especially confined spaces) may be susceptible to contamination by various gases. If undetected, these noxious gases may cause deterioration in air quality leading to respiratory issues in workers or an increased risk of fire or explosion.
By periodically testing for air quality and the presence of hazardous gases utilizing on-site gas detection equipment, workers trained in gas detection can minimize the hazards posed by dangerous gases in the workplace.
Topics Include:
This half-day Gas Detection and Air Monitoring training course educates trainees on the types of hazardous and flammable gases that can be found in the workplace, the associated risks of each gas, and the levels (in parts-per-million) at which each gas poses a threat.
Students also learn which types of workplaces are vulnerable to gas exposure. In addition, trainees learn about proper calibration techniques, use and maintenance of gas detection monitors, documentation and emergency response. Trainees leave the course qualified to use gas detection monitors on-site.
