Course Details

Course Objective

This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to test the working atmosphere, using electronic test apparatus, to find out if it is safe for the proposed work. Workplace atmospheres may include visible and invisible hazards and hazardous surfaces.

It applies to situations where an individual may be required to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere prior to entering a specific area or workspace.

The competency requires the person to interpret readings and take actions based on the interpretation.

Course Outcome

On successful completion of this course learners will be issued:

  • Statement of Attainment
  • ATC Competency Card

 

Course Content

  • Recognise and assess conditions that require testing
  • Use gas testing equipment
  • Take readings, interpret and communicate relevant data
  • Take required action if readings are unacceptable
  • Clean and maintain gas testing equipment in accordance with procedures

 

Learner Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Ability to do basic mathematics and use a calculator
  • Learners must be 16 years of age and hold a White Card (if under 18 years of age)
