We offer English classes at various levels as well as a wide range of other languages, typically including Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Mandarin, Italian, Korean, Russian, Japanese and more on offer.
Our classes usually run for 10 weeks, taking place once a week on campus.
About Us
Our Story
The idea for the International Society arose back in 1966 when Eva Auerbach, a Chaplain at the University of Manchester, felt there was a need for an independent organisation to provide welfare and social support to international students.
Under the direction of Ms Anna Ford the Society was founded. From small beginnings of less than a hundred members we now have around 6,000 members from over 130 countries each year.

The International Society is a unique one of a kind, independent charity based in Manchester that has been celebrating cultural diversity and promoting global friendship for over 56 years.
We aim to provide international students with a warm and friendly welcome when they arrive in the city and to make their time in the UK a wonderful experience. Our activities including trips, classes, events, activities and volunteering opportunities are open to all.
While the majority of the Society’s members are international and British students studying at the universities and colleges in the city, many are people who have come to live and work in the UK, or members of the community interested in meeting people from all over the world. The Society is family-friendly and people of all ages get involved.
The German language is considered to be tier language for the native English speaker.Learning a second language is highly valuable to any person because of the communication skills that are developed in the process.
Popular through the business and cultural capitals of Europe, the German language is spoken by over 120 million people worldwide. If you’re interested in a career in the sciences, German is the second most widely used scientific language, and it is also an important language in the world.
We offer one-to-one and two-to-one lessons as well as small group courses from Beginner German to Advanced level with qualified and experienced native German teachers.
German language course is offered by The Language Centre for all skill level. We have courses from beginners to very advanced students, taught by experienced native speakers or teachers who have spent part of their lives in one of the countries where the language is spoken.
We practise speaking, listening, reading and writing in order to communicate effectively and understand the spoken and written language. Grammar is made as clear as possible, with frequent revision.
