Explore different aspects of contemporary events management from a global perspective, and develop your knowledge, understanding and skills. Immerse yourself within events management to enhance your career-readiness and employability, and foster your forward thinking, creativity and innovation.

Consider a broad range of events, with a particular focus on business events, including conferences, exhibitions, shows, meetings, product launches and award events.Analyse how global cultures construct, influence and impact upon events management.

The January start for this course is condensed in Year 1. Please see the ‘How you’ll learn’ section below for more details.

If you choose to start this course in January you will study exactly the same course but over a slightly shorter timescale in Year 1. This is ideal if you missed the September start, want to transfer from a different university or course or just need a bit more time to prepare for life at university.

What you'll study
Year one

  • In year one, you will study a mixture of business and events-related subjects, which aims to provide you with the requisite knowledge and understanding of the events industry. You will explore how to use appropriate tools and techniques to approach events theming and design. All modules listed below are mandatory.

Year two

  • In year two, students will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of core events management subjects. You can deepen your understanding of event management principles learned in the first year through the examination of industry practice.

  • Revenue & Procurement Planning for Hospitality, Tourism and Events - 20 credits
  • Business Law for Hospitality, Tourism and Events - 20 credits
  • Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions (MICE) - 20 credits
  • Project Management for Events - 20 credits
  • Digital and Virtual Events - 20 credits
  • Sustainable Events Management - 20 credits

Placement year

  • There’s no better way to find out what you love doing than trying it out for yourself, which is why a work placement2 can often be beneficial. Work placement or study abroad years usually occur between your second and final year of study. They’re a great way to help you explore your potential career path, whilst developing transferable skills for the future.

If you choose to do a work placement or study abroad year, you will pay a reduced tuition fee of £1,2503. During this time you will receive guidance from your employer or partner institution, along with your assigned academic mentor who will ensure you have the support you need to complete your placement.

Final year

  • In your final year, you will be encouraged to draw on the knowledge and skills you have acquired in the first two years to help produce your own event. You will explore the importance of the events industry as a global market and have the choice of conducting a research project or gaining professional experience through an internship or simulation2.

How you'll learn

  • We designed the teaching and learning for this course to give you a strong academic knowledge of key theories and concepts to help you understand and appreciate current and relevant research in this subject area.
  • You also have the opportunity to apply the theories and concepts to current practice through real-life scenarios2, case studies and a variety of class activities. The course will also give you the opportunity to develop and demonstrate your essential analytical skills and respond to employer-related problems by making a set of clearly evaluated recommendations.
  • This course can be offered on a part-time basis. Whilst we would like to give you all the information about our part-time offering here, it is tailored for each course each year depending on the number of part-time applicants.
  • If you choose to start this course in January it will be run as a condensed programme. You’ll start your course in January and finish your first year in August. Upon successful completion of Year 1, you will progress onto Year 2 in September and then continue to start subsequent years of your course in September, completing your degree at the same time as the September starters unless you opt to do a placement year.

This course aims to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills to prepare you for a career in all types of events functions, with a particular focus on those associated with businesses operating in the hospitality, tourism and fashion industries.

In addition, the course aims to provide you with in-depth understanding of different aspects of contemporary events management from a global perspective.
