We encourage all of our students to take regular Graded Exams, as it’s a great way to build confidence and really drive home the skills they learn as well as providing a benchmark of their progress. These are however optional, should you choose it’s not for you. Our grades are fully accredited to be equivalent to GCSEs at the lower end all the way up to A-levels and UCAS points for university entry at the higher grade 6 – 8 end.
Shades Music shop, repair and tuition centre, was opened by Christopher Poole on the 1st December 2007.
Shades have 100’s of regular customers and helping over 250 students per week, achieve their goals!
We also sell beginner and intermediate instruments as well as all accessories and offer a full repair centre for Woodwind, guitars, ukuleles and bass.
Shop opening times are from 14:00 – 20:00 Monday – Friday and 9:30 until 17:30 on Saturdays.

Bass Guitar lessons at DC Music Lessons are provided by multi instrumentalist Callum Stevenson. Callum is a patient and friendly tutor and also a professional musicians who has played on some of the biggest stages in the U.K. including T in The Park and Bute Fest.
Feel tuned into the low end of music? Whether it's providing the driving, rhythmic force that powers today's rock and pop classics, the irresistable, get-up-and-dance groove in funk, or the soaring melodic virtuosity in prog rock, the bass guitar has a compelling presence.
You will learn all the basics of the instrument and how to use it including simple chords and melodies of your fav songs, rock, pop, jazz, blues, and other genres. You learn how to hold the guitar, your right and left hand techniques, how music fits together and so much more.
Pupils may start on acoustic or classical guitar from year 3. Guitars can be purchased from retailers in different sizes as most appropriate to the child. Pupils may also receive lessons on electric guitar and bass guitar normally after learning the acoustic / classical guitar for some time.
We offer exciting guitar lessons covering a range of styles, whether that be jazz, classical, popular, or blues.
