Course Details

The NZBA Health and Safety Representative course meets the requirements of initial training under sections 70(a) and 85(a) of the HSWA. It is designed to help you understand your role as an HSR and how to perform the functions of the role effectively. 

 

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the HSWA and how it applies to your role.
  • How to effectively fulfil your role as an HSR.
  • How to promote and foster constructive worker involvement in health and safety matters.
  • How to encourage open and honest communication and consultation between the person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) and workers.
  • How to work with the PCBU to promote and foster successful health and safety management systems amongst members of the workforce.
  • When and how to use the HSR delegated powers given under the HSWA.

The course content is covered over three modules and includes the following:

  • Relevant Terminology
  • Risk Management
  • Worker Engagement and Participation Practices
  • Health and Safety Committees
  • The Function and Powers of the HSR
  • Worksafe New Zealand.
