The movements are drawn from breaking, locking, popping which all emerged in the 1970s. Plimmerton School of Dance offers a range of Hip Hop classes including beginners, grade work and adult classes.
Classes start from the age of 4. We follow the NZAMD Hip Hop Syllabus.
This is an energetic Hip Hop Syllabus, which extends the students and gives them an exciting progression up through the levels. At the end of each year, students are assessed by examinations.
Junior Boppers is a fusion of Beginners Jazz and Beginners Hip Hop and gets our 4 – 6 year olds bopping about!

With small class sizes, attention can be given to each individual allowing students to achieve their potential.
The dancing year follows the Primary School Terms with a full concert at the end of the year. Exams, (which are optional) are held in term three every year from the age five.
We teach the New Zealand Association of Modern Dance (NZAMD) and Dance New Zealand Made (DNZM) Hip Hop syllabus for pre grade to senior students.
Shore Dance offers fun, upbeat, open hip hop classes from age 3 years to adults. In our hip hop classes you will learn various street styles and urban choreography movement.
Hip Hop is FUN, so if your little one can't sit still because he/she just wants to dance then this would be the class! While we do offer Exam & Competition work it is not compulsory!
Our hip hop classes follow a more “open” style of teaching. This means that although students may spent 2 or 3 years at the same level (e.g Junior) the work will be tailor-made to suit the ability of the class.
